Tides of Tomorrow Ocean Events — Complete Guide to All 6 Events
Every Ocean Event in Tides of Tomorrow explained: what triggers them, what rewards they offer, and how they contribute to your Tidewalker's Story-Link legacy. Includes the mandatory Vortex Harvest walkthrough for Cure Component 2.
🌊 Ocean Events Overview
Ocean Events are the spontaneous encounters that occur during ocean navigation in Tides of Tomorrow. They represent one of the game's most distinctive systems — turning the stretches of water between platforms from simple loading screens into living narrative space. Each Ocean Event is a self-contained mini-story: an environmental puzzle, a moral decision, or an action sequence that rewards attention and engagement.
Unlike the main story, Ocean Events are optional with one critical exception: the Vortex Harvest during the Maelstrom approach, which is the only opportunity to collect Plastemia Cure Component 2. Missing it makes the full cure unachievable in that playthrough.
🌀 The Vortex Harvest
Occurs during the Maelstrom approach in the final act. Requires navigating the Vortex's outer ring to collect bio-luminescent organism clusters before the current surge collapses the collection window. This is the ONLY opportunity to collect Cure Component 2 — do not skip it.
⛈️ Storm Salvage
Triggered by entering a storm zone marked on the navigation map. A pre-flood cargo vessel is partially submerged and sinking — the event requires rapid decision-making about which cargo holds to prioritise before flooding. Time-limited but very resource-rich.
👻 The Ghost Platform
A seemingly abandoned platform that, on investigation, contains survivors in hiding from a Marauder patrol. Fully narrative event — no mechanical challenge. The dialogue choices here affect a minor questline in Marketland.
🌊 Bioluminescent Field Navigation
Navigating through a field of bioluminescent micro-organisms. Primarily atmospheric, with a navigation challenge requiring minimal interaction. Good for Ozen farming in the early game when the risk-to-reward ratio is most favourable.
🤿 Deep Wreckage Dive
Required to obtain a Delta Component for Efod's research chain if not acquired through the Archive Platform route. The dive involves a navigation sequence through a flooded pre-flood structure with time pressure from rising water levels.
💀 Marauder Supply Intercept
An opportunity to intercept a Marauder supply convoy. High reward but guaranteed Marauder rep loss. Only recommended if you are already on an anti-Marauder playthrough or have maxed Marauder rep to absorb the penalty.
🎯 General Ocean Event Strategy
- 🗺️ Watch your navigation map — Ocean Event prompts appear as distinct markers on the navigation map during ocean travel. They have a short window before the narrative advances past them.
- 🔗 Follow your Story-Link ghost — Minor Visions during ocean navigation show where your linked Tidewalker went and whether they engaged with an Ocean Event. Use this to confirm event locations.
- 💊 Maintain medicine before hard events — Storm Salvage and the Vortex Harvest have sequences where Plastemia stage increases if you take environmental damage. Enter these events at Stage 1-2 with medicine reserves.
- ⏰ Early-game: prioritise Bioluminescent Field and Ghost Platform — lowest risk, consistent Ozen income, and the Ghost Platform's narrative choice affects later Marketland content.
- 🌀 Never skip the Vortex Harvest — it cannot be replayed and Cure Component 2 cannot be obtained any other way. Treat it as a mandatory main quest sequence.
- 📊 Ocean Events contribute to your Tidewalker Traits — consistent engagement with Ocean Events (especially helping NPCs) builds Pro-Mankind trait faster than main story choices alone.
❓ Ocean Events FAQ
Are Ocean Events in Tides of Tomorrow mandatory?
Only one Ocean Event is mandatory: The Vortex Harvest during the Maelstrom approach, which provides Cure Component 2. The Deep Wreckage Dive is conditionally mandatory if you are pursuing Efod's questline and did not obtain the Delta Component from the Archive Platform. All other Ocean Events are optional but richly rewarded.
Can I replay Ocean Events I missed?
No. Ocean Events in Tides of Tomorrow are time-sensitive and location-specific. Once the narrative advances past their spawn window, they become unavailable in that playthrough. This is intentional design — DigixArt treats Ocean Events as emergent stories rather than repeatable content. The presence and outcome of Ocean Events also contributes to your Story-Link legacy for players following your seed.
What is the best Ocean Event for early-game resource farming?
The Bioluminescent Field Navigation event provides the best risk-to-reward ratio for early-game Ozen farming — low difficulty, consistent Ozen rewards, and no negative faction rep consequences. Storm Salvage provides richer rewards but is more demanding. Avoid the Marauder Supply Intercept until your Marauder rep can absorb the -15 hit.
Do Ocean Events affect my Story-Link legacy?
Yes. The outcome of Ocean Events — particularly whether you helped stranded survivors in the Ghost Platform event or intercepted Marauder convoys — contributes to your Tidewalker's trait profile. Future players following your seed will find world states shaped partly by your Ocean Event choices.
